how will we communicate with you?

TBD.

is all that gear really necessary?

There are two lists under What to Bring: Required, and Highly Recommended. The required gear is the bare minimum for keeping your child safe and healthy, and the highly recommended list will help keep them comfortable.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because the spaces for campers are reserved early in the year, and hard to fill last minute, there is a no-refund policy for passes purchased.

In the event of an emergency, families may qualify for a partial refund of up to 50% if they notify camp at least 72 hours before the start of the pass dates.

If a family would like to switch out one week for another, it will have to be addressed on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability.

There are no partial refunds offered on summer passes.

What if my camper doesn't need sunscreen?

Even those of us with lots of melanin are affected by UV exposure, though for some, the effects may not be noticeable for years. We are outside for most of a 9-hour day, 5 days a week, so for the safety and well-being of all, sunscreen is required. With drop-off being a bit chaotic at times, it is asked that parents please apply sunscreen before dropping off. We will ensure at least one more application at lunchtime, more if necessary.

What is the policy for inclement weather/air pollution/excessive heat days?

Luckily, we don't have many inclement weather days here in the PNW summers. However, for any days that are issued formal warnings regarding public health and safety, we will either be offering a partial day of camp or canceling altogether. This includes excessive air quality alert days and days during which the official temperature is higher than 99ºF. If a camper comes unprepared for extreme heat on 98ºF days, he/she/they will not be allowed to participate. Please anticipate your child’s needs for a long day spent outside.

What do I pack for lunch and a snack? Are snacks provided? Is refrigeration available?

Students should arrive with a morning snack, a packed lunch, and an afternoon snack. If anything packed requires refrigeration, please include an ice pack, as we may not be planning to have lunch at home base. If your child has dietary restrictions, please be sure to include those on the registration form.

**It is strongly recommended that campers be equipped with a pack that includes a hydration reservoir. If not, be sure to provide a spill proof, insulated water bottle, and don’t be afraid to include single serve electrolyte additives that can be added to water. With our summers getting increasingly hot, it is extremely important to prepare your child to safely spend 9 hours in potentially intense sun and heat conditions. Hydration, sun protection (sunblock, sun hat, sun glasses, sun shirts, etc.), and proper nutrition are all important elements of heat safety. There are a variety of personal cooling items available in a wide range of prices that could go a long way towards keeping your child safe and comfortable, from a simple hand held fan, to freezable cooling towels. There are also lots of DIY options out there, check out the member page for some that we’ve come across.
